Homestead High School opened in the fall of 1962 with 9th and 10th grade classes. During the late 1960s and 1970s, the school was a haven for students interested in electronics and the emerging computer age. Homestead played a large role in the development of Silicon Valley, with distinguished alumni including Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
Dave Sankus has been the Director of Homestead Percussion since 2007. Prior to joining Homestead, he taught at James Logan and Leigh High Schools, in addition to the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum Corps. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from San Jose State and a MM in Percussion from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
