Dommartin is best remembered for her performance as the romantic heroine of Wim Wenders' fallen angel story, Wings of Desire (1987). She reprised her role in a sequel, Faraway, So Close (1993). She also edited Wenders' documentary Tokyo-Ga (1985) and together they co-wrote Until the End of the World (1991).
