Her only surviving child was Percy Florence Shelley, who was born in 1819 and who acceded to the baronetcy upon the death of Shelley's father, Sir Timothy, in 1844. Mary Shelley herself died in her home in Chester Square, London, on 1 February 1851 .

Percy Florence Shelley (12 de noviembre de 1819- 5 de diciembre de 1889) fue el hijo de Percy Bysshe Shelley y de la autora de la novela gótica Frankenstein o el moderno Prometeo, Mary Shelley. Su segundo nombre, Florence, le fue elegido por haber nacido en la ciudad de Florencia (en inglés, Florence) en Italia.
Matrimonio e hijo Contrajeron matrimonio en 1816, después de que la primera esposa de Shelley se quitara la vida ahogándose. Fruto de esta convivencia fueron varios embarazos y un único hijo, un varón, solo el pequeño Percy Florence sobrevivió a la infancia. Percy murió antes de cumplir los treinta años en una tormenta mientras navegaba.
