Hudson Taylor: the man God shaped for China. 2 005 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Hudson Taylor, missionary to China and one of the most influential carriers of the Gospel since the days of the apostles. If th e call to mission depended on human judgment, Hudson Taylor would never have made it.

It’s as though God gave Taylor this extraordinary experience not as icing on the cake of conversion, but as a way of surviving and thriving in the worst of his sorrows.
Taylor was born on 21 May 1832 the son of a chemist and Methodist lay preacher James Taylor and his wife, Amelia (Hudson). As a young man he ran away from the Christian beliefs of his parents. At 17, after reading an evangelistic tract pamphlet entitled "Poor Richard," he professed faith in Christ, and in December 1849, he committed himself to going to China as a missionary.[7]
Facts. Two teenage girls (Ds) committed perjury during the trial of X. They claimed that X’s gang had threatened them with harm if they told the truth and that a gang member was sitting in the public gallery during the trial. Jury directed that they could not consider the defence of duress.
