The Bayard Rustin Educational Complex, also known as the Humanities Educational Complex, is a "vertical campus" of the New York City Department of Education which contains a number of small public schools.
Raised as a Quaker, Bayard Rustin (1912-1987) was an openly gay Black activist and devout pacifist who, over the course of five decades, had an immeasurable impact on the civil rights movement in the United States and social justice efforts abroad.

It had been housed in an office building in Midtown but moved into the Bayard Rustin building in 2009. Formerly a zoned, neighborhood high school, the former Bayard Rustin High School was closed because of poor performance. Its last students graduated in 2012. Read more.
