Most agree that Conquest largely eschews the nuanced, allegorical nature of the first Planet of the Apes film and the novel and instead focuses on action and spectacle.
I love how each Apes sequel tries something new.Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is not perfect, but the cruel future (1991, where apes are kept as enslaved pets in place of cats and dogs, made extinct in a plague) it presents is very effective. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes marked the third appearance of Roddy McDowall in the lucrative series. However, in this entry, McDowall played "Caesar," the son of "Cornelius," the simian scientist he portrayed in 1968's Planet of the Apes and 1971's Escape from the Planet of the Apes (see below). Ricardo Montalban reprised his role as "Armando" from the latter film.
