Mirisch led numerous initiatives to evolve and secure a successful future for the organization, including establishing a new headquarters for the Academy in Beverly Hills.

Biography. The legendary Walter Mirisch got his start producing low-budget features for the more famous of the "Poverty Row" studios, Monogram, and served as executive producer with its subsidiary, Allied Artists, before forming an independent production company with his brother Marvin (born 1918) and half-brother Harold (born 1907) in 1957.

Leben. Mirisch stammte aus einer jüdischen Familie und hatte zwei ältere Brüder. Sein Vater emigrierte 1891 aus Krakau (damals Kronland Galizien, Österreich-Ungarn) und arbeitete als Schneider in New York. Walter Mirisch arbeitete im Zweiten Weltkrieg am Bau von Bomberflugzeugen mit, ehe er an der University of Wisconsin–Madison und der Harvard Business School studierte.
