Adolf Galland, né le 19 mars 1912 à Westerholt, aujourd'hui Herten, en province de Westphalie, et mort le 9 février 1996 à Remagen-Oberwinter, en Rhénanie-Palatinat (Allemagne), est un aviateur allemand, as de l'aviation durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Pilote de chasse puis commandant de la chasse allemande à partir de 1942, il est titulaire de 104 victoires homologuées.
Galland was born in Westerhold, a small village in Westphalia on March 19, 1912. He had three brothers: Fritz, Wilhelm, and Paul (the latter two also being Luftwaffe pilots.). The youngest, Paul was shot down and killed in 1942, and Wilhelm a year later. Paul had 17 victories, and Wilhelm had 54 and the Knight's Cross.
JV 44 comprised a core of experienced pilots ( Experten) chosen from Galland's former staff or recruited from units which had been disbanded or were being re-equipped. JV 44 performed well during its brief history, achieving a 4-to-1 kill ratio.
Two of Adolf Galland's brothers also became fighter pilots and aces. Paul Galland scored 17 victories and was shot down and killed by a RAF Spitfire on 31 Oct 1942, and Wilhelm-Ferdinand Galland was shot down on 17 Aug 1943 after achieving 54 victories.
