Jean de Florette est le premier tome du cycle « L’Eau des collines », œuvre que Marcel Pagnol publie en 1963. Manon des sources en est le second. L’histoire d’Ugolin et de Manon est inspirée du film Manon des sources réalisé par Pagnol lui-même en 1952. C’est sa femme Jacqueline qui interprète le personnage de Manon.
