The Dirty Dozen is a concept developed by Gordon Dupont, in 1993, whilst he was working for Transport Canada, and formed part of an elementary training program for Human Performance in Maintenance. It has since become a cornerstone of Human Factors in Maintenance training courses worldwide

It highlights the twelve most common factors that lead to workplace accident and injury as they relate to the aviation industry. The Dirty Dozen has also been made into a course that provides training on how to avoid the dozen major problem areas.
