Silverthorn is a semestered school, meaning we run 4 classes for half the year (Sept –Jan) and 4 classes for the second half of the year (Feb –June). The school day starts at 9:00 AM and finishes at 3:15 PM, with the exception of some Wednesday’s when we have a late start from 9:55 – 3:15 PM. Within the day, we run 5 classes every day.
Silverthorn Collegiate Institute’s History When Markland Wood was developed in the early 1960s, the Etobicoke Board of Education decided to build a secondary school for the area. The school was to be named Silverthorn Collegiate Institute after the family who had first settled the area.
