Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (German: Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny) is a political-satirical opera composed by Kurt Weill to a German libretto by Bertolt Brecht. It was first performed on 9 March 1930 at the Neues Theater in Leipzig.

An unconventional marriage. It wasn’t long before Lotte Lenya moved in with Kurt Weill in his tiny flat on Berlin’s Luisenplatz, and they married at the end of January 1926, much to the dismay of Weill’s pious parents. “She’s a terrible housewife. But a very good actress,” quipped the husband.
