William Wallace Lincoln (December 21, 1850 – February 20, 1862) was the third son of President Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. He was named after Mary's brother-in-law, Dr. William Smith Wallace. He died of typhoid fever at the White House, during his father's presidency.

The only child of a first family to die while living in the White House, William Wallace Lincoln made tragic history. He was the cherished middle son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. By all accounts, Willie Lincoln shared many of the traits of his famous father.
Willie was studious, personable, intelligent and creative—the child who most closely reflected his father’s personality. His death was probably caused by the contaminated water that flowed through a nearby canal that provided water for the White House and a place for White House children to play.
