The Royal Air Force College ( RAFC) is the Royal Air Force academy which provides initial training to all RAF personnel who are preparing to become commissioned officers. Realising Trenchard's vision for an RAF College on the lines of Sandhurst and Britannia, RAF Cranwell was officially formed on 1 November 1919 and opened for business on 5 February 1920. The decision to replace the existing corrugated iron huts was made in 1922.
Flying training takes place all year round at RAF Cranwell. A usual flying day is 8am to 5pm. Every effort is made to minimise the disruption to local communities. However noise levels may sometimes increase due to training taking place over the airfield or from transiting fast jets or helicopters, which do practice low flying.
