“Thinking Reed” is a feminist novel in that Isabelle is a very capable woman frustrated by the vocational limits placed on her by society. She does not dwell on this, and accepts the conventions of the day, but she is not blind to it either.
Isabelle is beautiful, immensely rich and a widow at the age of twenty-six. In 1928 she leaves America for Cannes and Paris in search of high society - and love.
