Jamaica competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from August 5 to 21, 2016. This marked its sixteenth Summer Olympic appearance as an independent nation, although it had previously competed in four other editions as a British colony, and as part of the West Indies Federation.
Caribbean athletes have made history at the Olympic Games. Since the time when Cuban fencer Ramón Fonst first made it to the awards podium at the Paris 1900 event and until Tokyo 2020, dozens of formidable athletes from this region have won medals in the main sporting event on the planet.

Jamaican athletes have won a total of 87 medals, with all but one medal won in athletics, and all but three of those in the individual and relay sprint events. The National Olympic Committee for Jamaica is the Jamaica Olympic Association, and was founded in 1936.
