Jerry Busher and James Canty formed French Toast in 2001. Friends for more than 20 years, they had performed in a number of D.C. bands — Nation of Ulysses , Make Up , Fidelity Jones , and Fugazi (Busher toured with the group for eight years and played on "The Argument") — but had never collaborated with one another.
