Shortly afterwards Pete Bain joined on bass. Morris and Bain had previously played together in a band called Noise on Independent Street. Pierce handled lead vocal duties. Now a 4-piece, the band originally adopted the name The Spacemen.
After effectively forming the band in Pierce’s bedroom in late 1982, and recruiting Tim Morris on drums and Pete Bain on bass (who had played together in local band Noise On Independent Street), the fledgling Spacemen played a series of infrequent gigs in the Rugby area.

The band formed in Rugby in 1989 and was led by Pete Bain (aka Bassman), who had left Spacemen 3 just before their 1989 album Playing With Fire. Bain was then joined in the new outfit by his former bandmate, drummer Sterling Roswell (aka Rosco).

In addition to Sonic Boom (guitar, feedback) and J. Spaceman (guitar, vocals), this first album also featured Pete Bain on bass and Nicholas Brooker on drums and percussion. The original album came out on the Glass label only on vinyl but found a second issue in 1989 on Fire and yet another release with bonus tracks in 1994 on Taang!
