Joel McKinnon Miller (born February 21, 1960) is an American actor who is best known for portraying Don Embry on Big Love and Detective Norm Scully on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

From (2006-2011) Joel played Don Embry on the HBO series Big Love. His most recognizable role to date, however, was playing Detective Norm Scully for 8 seasons on the NBC hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

After college, he joined John Houseman's The Acting Company, a classical theatre touring company based in New York City where he spent 3 years (1984-87) touring the US.
