Steve Swallow (born October 4, 1940) is an American jazz bassist and composer, known for his collaborations with Jimmy Giuffre, Gary Burton, and Carla Bley. He was one of the first jazz double bassists to switch entirely to electric bass guitar.
Steve Swallow es un bajista y contrabajista de jazz estadounidense. Biografía. Nacido en Nueva York en 1940, Swallow pasó su infancia en Fair Lawn, Nueva Jersey.
Con ése extraordinario bagaje musical, Steve se unió al grupo de Jimmy Giuffre y Art Farmer, y en 1965 fue contratado por Stan Getz en su cuarteto, con el que actuó en Europa grabando discos de enorme éxito como: «The Stan Getz Quartet in Paris» o «The Best of Two Worlds».

Although it is a five-string bass, Swallow adds a high C string instead of the usual low B, a choice that extends the instrument’s upper register. This aspect of Swallow’s playing style has been essential to his musical relationship with Bley.
