Philip Sidney, 3rd Earl of Leicester (10 January 1619 – 6 March 1698) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1659 and became Earl of Leicester in 1677.
When Sidney was seventeen his uncle, the Earl of Leicester, sent him on a tour of the Continent, to learn languages and international relations. In May 1572 he crossed to France in a special embassy to Charles IX, with Leicester's recommendation to Sir Francis Walsingham, then resident ambassador in Paris.
