Alun Edward Michael JP (born 22 August 1943) is a Welsh Labour and Co-operative retired politician. He served as Secretary of State for Wales from 1998 to 1999 and then as the first First Secretary of Wales (later known as First Minister) and Leader of Welsh Labour from 1999 to 2000.
Alun Michael has been the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales since 2012, during which time it has become recognised as one of the highest-performing police services in terms of response, engaging with local communities and putting an emphasis on preventing crime and harm.
Alun Michael is standing for re-election as the PCC for South Wales, with a track record of delivering a high-performing police service and preventing crime. He is supported by Welsh Labour and the Co-operative Party and has pledged to continue his work with communities, agencies and officers.
