Gilbert Marshal, 4th Earl of Pembroke (c. 1194/1207 – 27 June 1241) was the third son of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke and Countess Isabel, the daughter of Richard son of Gilbert, earl of Striguil. He was a member of the Marshal family.

Gilbert acceded to the title of Earl of Pembroke on 11 June 1234, on the death of his elder brother Richard who had died childless.

His brother Gilbert (d. 1241), who became the 4th Earl, was a friend and ally of Richard, Earl of Cornwall. When another brother, Anselm, the 6th Earl, died in December 1245, the male descendants of the great Earl Marshal became extinct.
My father told me the other night that my aunt made a DNA connection that tied out lineage to Gilbert Marshal, 4th Earl of Pembroke's illegitimate daughter Isabel. I cannot find much about her other than she was supposedly betrothed but I cannot find if she ever married?

He officiated as Marshal at the Coronation of Queen Eleanor in 1236. In the same year he took the cross. In 1238 he supported his brother-in-law, the Earl of Cornwall, against the King's foreign favourites.
