11 de feb. de 1999 · Leray viewed mathematics as a tool for modelling, and drew his inspiration from problems in mechanics and physics, such as fluid dynamics and wave propagation.
After France's military collapse in May-June of 1940 and the subsequent infamous armistice that the French government signed on 17 June, Leray became a prisoner of war on 24 June and was sent to a prisoner's camp in Austria (Oflag XVIIA) on 2 July.
1 de dic. de 2006 · Jean Leray was one of the major mathematicians of the twentieth century. His primary focus in mathematics came from applications; indeed, a majority of his contributions were in the theory of partial differential equations arising in physics, notably his 1934 paper on the Navier–Stokes equation.
