26 de jul. de 2018 · Pieces of the surviving structure, including those with decorative sculpture, were used by the Knights of Saint John of Malta in the walls of the castle of St Peter at Bodrum, constructed c. 1494 CE. Many sculptural pieces and other fragments from the Mausoleum were discovered during the British excavations of the 1850s CE.
The sculptural themes on the Mausoleum of Halikarnassos explored life in the court of King Maussollos of Karia, south-west Turkey, and his hopes for the afterlife. Colossal free-standing statues and marble relief slabs from the Mausoleum can be seen in Room 21, as well as fragments of the huge marble, four-horse chariot that crowned the pyramid roof.
