However, it is a challenge to quantify forest residues at a fine spatial scale due to large spatial variations of forest species and lacking of suitable research methods.
Forest residues are a potentially important source of renewable energy. They are generated as a byproduct of timber harvesting around the world. To optimize the utilization of such biomass, one must know its physical and chemical properties. This paper presents an analysis of comminuted forest residues from Pinus sylvestris L.

Compared to other second-generation bioenergy sources, they do not compete for food, are relatively cheap, abundant in forest-rich areas, and more importantly their energy balance is close to zero.
Resumen. Los residuos de la cosecha forestal son una fuente de energía renovable que no ha sido considerada todavía a gran escala en México y para su estimación se requiere de evaluaciones cada vez más precisas.
