4 de mar. de 2022 · Ukraine is one of the world's major breadbaskets, producing enough food to feed 400 million people per year prior to the war. The war has drastically cut supplies for countries in acute need while driving up food prices.
WFP uses a flexible mix of food and cash assistance to support vulnerable people. This includes working with local partners to distribute food rations in areas near the frontline, and providing cash transfers wherever people have access to banks and markets to buy food.
WCK was ready with warm meals, fruit, and hot tea. By May, WCK had built the largest food relief operation in Ukraine, reaching more than 230 cities and towns. Combined with the seven other countries we were still cooking in daily, WCK served 25 million meals in response to the invasion.
Since March 2022, WFP has distributed food and cash assistance equivalent to 2.5 billion meals to Ukrainians. Families near the frontline receive food rations. Where markets are functioning and food is available, WFP provides people with cash-based assistance.
