History. Stanton began as the convergence of a railroad’s need [to populate its new route from Burlington to Omaha] with the hope of a young Sweden-born pastor to start a new settlement for his fellow immigrants. This pastor, then in Burlington, was born Bengt Magnus Johansson.
The Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center is operated by the Stanton Historical Society which began in 1970, Stanton’s 100th birthday. In 1993, the old main school building (built in 1885) was being vacated and sold.
