The walls are of local Oxfordshire stone and the roofs are covered with slates and lead. The college was founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester.

The play was first performed at the Garrick Theatre in 2022 to much critical acclaim, starring Emma Corrin in the titular role.
