Hace 4 días · Finally, after Palmerston expressed his approval of the coup d’état of Louis Napoleon (later Napoleon III) in 1851 without consulting the queen, the prime minister, Lord John Russell, dismissed him. Within a few months the immensely popular Palmerston was back in office, however, as home secretary. He would serve twice as prime minister.
Hace 2 días · Russell dismissed Lord Palmerston from the cabinet, leaving the latter determined to deprive the Prime Minister of office. Palmerston did so within weeks of Parliament's reassembly on 4 February 1852, his followers combining with Disraeli's Tories to defeat the government on a Militia Bill, and Russell resigned.

Hace 5 días · Palmerston pressed for the occupation of Crimea in the first place and he used his experience as Secretary at War (which he amalgamated with Secretary for War under Lord Panmure) to solve the crisis. As the French seemed to have lost heart, he personally remonstrated to Louis Napoleon and got him involved again along with the Austrians.
