She was born in East Lansing, Michigan to Patricia (Walcott) Foster and Robert Weller Foster on January 1, 1956. The family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where Carol attended school, graduating from Pioneer High School in 1974.

The 2024 awardees and scholarships are: • Daniel Lint of Suttons Bay High School, recipient of the Anson and Ruth Solem Science Scholarship. Lint plans to attend Northwestern Michigan College in the fall.
