David Alan Chipperfield, né le 18 décembre 1953 à Londres, Angleterre, est un architecte britannique de renommée internationale. Il possède notamment une agence d’architecture à Londres, Berlin et Milan ainsi qu’un bureau de liaison à Shanghai. En 2023, il devient le cinquième Britannique à recevoir le prix Pritzker (après James Stirling, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid et Richard Rogers).
Nel 1984 fonda il David Chipperfield Architects a Londra, al quale si sono aggiunte le sedi di Tokyo ( 1987 ), Milano, Berlino e Shanghai. Nel 1985 è un membro fondatore della 9H Gallery, mentre negli anni a seguire assume una serie di incarichi volti alla progettazione d'interni.
David Chipperfield Architects was founded in 1985 in London. The office’s earliest work included retail and private residential projects in the city, but went on to include projects in Japan, as well as successful competitions in Germany and Italy. Today, the office’s 125 staff continue to work across a range of architectural projects in the UK and around the world.
Back in 2004, David Chipperfield Architects Berlin moved into their own office building, a former piano factory in Joachimstraße 11. To form an office campus, the historic brick building from 1895 was expanded by four new buildings in 2013, establishing a creative work environment that encourages innovative ideas and engagement in the practice’s discourse on building culture.
