Our school was founded by George Heriot is the early 17th century to provide an education to 'fatherless barins' in the city of Edinburgh.
George Heriot’s provides a full education from age 4 to 18, with most children joining us in Primary 1, Primary 6, Primary 7 or Senior 1. George Heriot’s is a selective school – admission is based on performance in an entry assessment. The school is happy to consider applications for places in other years, including Senior 6.
George Heriot’s School welcomes children from all backgrounds. Each child comes with different gifts, and contributes in different ways. Through the Trust established by George Heriot, our Foundation provides full fee remission for the children of widows and widowers who need financial assistance with the cost of school fees.
