Wright was born Holly McIntire in New York City. Her parents were the actors John McIntire and Jeanette Nolan. Her brother is actor Tim McIntire (1944–1986). In her early 20s, Wright appeared in two episodes of the television series Wagon Train with her parents.

John Herrick McIntire (June 27, 1907 – January 30, 1991) was an American character actor who appeared in 65 theatrical films and many more television series.
Biography. The son of actors, Tim McIntire was himself an actor and composer whose brief career ran from the early 1960s to the early '80s. He followed his father, John McIntire, to the office for one of his first television roles, in 1963, as a guest on the western "Wagon Train," on which John was one of the leads.
