UFOs became a major subject of interest following the development of rocketry after World War II and were thought by some researchers to be intelligent extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.
UFO (z anglického Unidentified Flying Object = neidentifikovaný létající objekt) je jev, kdy pozorovatel hlásí situaci, ve které pozoroval na obloze předmět, jehož podstatu není schopen racionálně vysvětlit (pozorovatel nemusí mít dostatečné znalosti nebo zkušenosti k tomu, aby daný předmět identifikoval, proto může být například letadlo jako UFO).
