Die Wiesel-Kommission forderte Anfang März 2009 den Präfekten des Kreises Neamț auf, Ion Antonescu die postume Ehrenbürgerschaft der Stadt Piatra Neamț abzuerkennen. Den Titel eines Ehrenbürgers hatte Antonescu 1999 erhalten. Bereits 1994 wurde in Piatra Neamț ein Antonescu-Denkmal errichtet, das jedoch 2002 geschleift wurde.
