Mini-biografi: Var søn af en handelsagent af fransk herkomst og fik ved dåben navnet Jean Pierre Carl Buron.Blev som 18årig elev på Dagmarteatret og kom til Nordisk Film, da Ole Olsen begyndte at lave stumfilm, havde roller i tre film af få minutters varighed og begyndte 1908 at turnere i Sverige samt Norge. Kaldte sig fra 1911 Jean Hersholt og besluttede sig for at prøve lykken i udlandet.
