Riverdale students try new activities that are challenging, meaningful, and fun. They join classmates on outdoor adventures and global studies trips. Students get involved in the arts, clubs, and athletics. They lead service-learning projects, engage in scientific research, teach mini-courses, and undertake independent projects.
Riverdale athletes have the distinct opportunity to practice and compete on campus and in Van Cortlandt Park. The School’s athletic facilities include three full-size playing fields, tennis courts, a 9,600-square-foot gymnasium, a second training gymnasium, a fitness center, a fencing room, and a dedicated aquatic center featuring a six-lane USA Swimming-certified indoor pool.
Riverdale students are active learners who break down complex problems, ask good questions, evaluate evidence, and develop confidence in their own abilities and talents. The in-depth curriculum and extensive co-curricular programs work together to provide knowledge and experience. Lower School students learn to collaborate.

Rivedale Country School is a Junior Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach. Riverdale Athletics’ mission is to provide a meaningful athletic experience for each student-athlete, maximizing student participation, promoting sportsmanship, representing the school with integrity, and balancing the commitments of being a student-athlete.
Environmental education is essential to the Lower School curriculum, teaching students to appreciate nature and protect the environment. Spring 2024 Admission Events Riverdale will host a series of tours in April and May of 2024 for prospective families who wish to learn more about our curriculum, programs, and community.
Character +Community. Teachers encourage students to develop character strengths alongside disciplinary knowledge. In reading, writing, and math, a workshop model of instruction allows students to develop at their own pace and to learn from collaborating with others. Classroom activities emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving.
