Hace 1 día · Dolores Keane credits Thomas Hodges, a schoolmaster in Ballyroan with writing the song in the 1870s. Hodges emigrated to Waterbury in Conneticut a city about 80 miles north east. of New York, bringing the song with him. Waterbury is known as the Brass capital of America because of Brass ware manufacturing.

The album goes on to become the biggest-selling album in Irish history. A Woman’s Heart Vol.2 is released in late 1994 and emulates its predecessor in album charts the world over.
22 de jun. de 2024 · I first heard this sung by John Faulkner on his and Dolores Keane’s excellent 1979 album Broken Hearted I’ll Wander, and was very taken with the roguish highwayman’s exploits and his origin story.
