Born out of a jam with Stevie Wonder for the Talking Book sessions (Beck came up with the distinctive drum opening heard in Wonder’s version). Wonder originally wanted Beck to release his version first, but Motown boss Berry Gordy had other ideas and denied Beck a hit.
