1 de jul. de 2024 · American jazz drummer Billy Higgins was a key figure in the late 1950s and ’60s, known for his work in hard bop and post-bop. He played with many famous musicians, like Ornette Coleman, Dexter Gordon, and Thelonious Monk.
Playing a transcription of Billy Higgins drum trades off Lee Morgan’s Speedball. I’ve always loved this track and Billy’s solos are super tasteful, musical, and use simple motifs to build powerful statements.

20 de jun. de 2024 · The quintet was completed by Barry Harris on piano, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Billy Higgins (who also held the chair for musical stylists as far apart as Ornette Coleman and Pat Metheny). All the music on the album was written by Lee Morgan and it’s the title cut that is first up.
