He is probably best remembered now for his classic appearance as a U Boat Captain in “Dad’s Army”, with the much-quoted line to Pike (Ian Lavender) who was being cheeky and singing a variant of “Whistle while you work”: “Your name vil also go on zee list.

She is best known for her role as Gladys Pugh in the 1980s BBC television comedy Hi-de-Hi!, for which she received a BAFTA TV award nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance, and as Daffyd Thomas's mother in the second series of Little Britain.
Hace 3 días · And yes, he was married to Ruth Madoc, who was Lowri’s mother, along with her brother Rhys. Madoc died in 2012, from cancer, aged 77, having worked to the end, and Merthyr’s boy was laid to rest, far from his native land, in London.

Educated at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, he then did an arts foundation course at Birmingham Polytechnic, a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles at Manchester Polytechnic, before doing his MA in woven textiles at the RCA.

Ruth has played many other parts since the end of the series and notably portrayed the late great Hattie Jacques in a biopic of her life.
