Bonnerji, Surendranath Banerji, Romesh Chandra Dutt, S. Subramania Iyer, among others – was largely from Bombay and Calcutta.

The first meeting did not, however, take place at Poona, for, only a few days before Christmas, some sporadic cases of cholera occurred and it was thought wiser to move the Conference, now called the Congress, to Bombay.
