This disc is dedicated to Mr. Cole’s cousin Margaret Chisley who passed away at 109 in January of 2021 and was a lifelong inspiration for Mr. Cole and his family. The titles for all but one piece come from Yoruba (of Nigeria) proverbs.

"Proverbs For Sam", the sixth album release by the Untempered Ensemble, is tribute to Bill Cole's longtime musical partner Sam Furnace. Sam Furnace blew a mighty and brave but warm alto saxophone aside Cole until his untimely death from cancer in 2003.
Cole’s Untempered Ensemble celebrates and personifies diversity in every way. Its members are of Indigenous American (Wabanaki and Nipissing), Asian-American, and African American descent.
