  1. Henry John Brinsley Manners, 8th Duke of Rutland, KG, TD (16 April 1852 – 8 May 1925), known as Henry Manners until 1888 and styled Marquess of Granby between 1888 and 1906, was a British peer and Conservative politician.

  2. The Manners family was established at Etal (Northumberland) by 1232. In 1469 Sir Robert Manners married Eleanor, sister and co-heir of Edmund, 11th Baron Ros (d. 1508).

  3. The quartered chief, with the fleurs-de-lis of France and lion passant guardant of England, was granted as an augmentation by King Henry VIII to Thomas Manners at the time of his creation as Earl of Rutland, in recognition of his descent in the maternal line from King Edward III.
