  2. Dame Pattie Maie Menzies (1899–1995), prime ministers wife and charity worker, was born on 2 March 1899 at Alexandra, Victoria, eldest of three daughters of locally born parents John William Leckie, farmer, manufacturer, and politician, and his wife May Beatrice, née Johnston.

  3. Pattie Menzies served the longest term as prime ministerial spouse, from 1939 to 1941 and from 1949 to 1966. She was a widely respected public figure, and was made Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire in 1954.
