Nick had retired from performing and disbanded the group over three years ago to battle the disease. The Capris were formed in 1957 by teenagers in Queens, New York.
Started by first tenor Mike Mincieli and Rosario Morice (Sonny) who later left the group when he joined the Navy, the original group coalesced in 1958 – also including Nick Santo (Santamaria) lead baritone, second tenor Frank Reina, baritone Vinnie Narcardo, and bass John Cassese.

Real Name: Nick J. "Santo" Santamaria. Profile: Lead singer of the Ozone Park, NY doowop quintet, The Capris. Born Nov. 10, 1941, he wrote and led the group's signature ballad, "There's A Moon Out Tonight." Santo left the group in 1963 for a career as a New York City police officer.
