The Downchild Blues Band is a Canadian blues band, described by one reviewer as "the premier blues band in Canada". [1] The band is still commonly known as the Downchild Blues Band, though the actual band name was shortened to "Downchild" in the early 1980s. The Blues Brothers band was heavily influenced by Downchild Blues Band.

The band kept busy in the clubs in Toronto until 1970. Garwood was replaced by keyboardist Bruno Weckerle, Craig Kaleal (of The Witness) became the permanent drummer and a new vocalist Buzz Shearman was added. The band was invited to appear at three day long, Strawberry Fields Festival, in August 1970.
Craig Kaleal, an exceptionally talented drummer, also joined Jabazz. Craig was known for his contributions to Witness Inc., Leigh Ashford, Wascana, Dianne Heatherington, Downchild Blues Band, Jacques Lussier Band, and The Upsetters.
It took Kenny Shields until 1975 to fully recover from his accident and regain the confidence to return to centre stage. He attempted to reform Witness Inc. with former drummer Craig Kaleal, bassist Kenny Sinneave, keyboardist Daryl Gutheil, guitarists George Martin and Bob Deutscher.
