Located northwest of Macon, High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River. Boat rental, ramps and fishing docks provide easy access to the park’s lake, known as one of Georgia’s top fishing spots for hybrid and white bass.
The lower part is along the water with a number of beautiful vistas, but it’s rocky & has many roots so it’s more treacherous than the upper path. On the other side of the river is the Heritage Trail, which is great for families because it’s a wide boardwalk that leads to ruins of a powerhouse.
The park's trails offer visitors scenic views of the largest waterfall in middle Georgia on the Towaliga River, cascading over 135 feet (41 m) to the base. Historic hikes lead to the foundation of the old grist mill and ruins of the old powerhouse. The park contains a 650-acre (2.6 km 2) lake.
