Slaughter and the Dogs are an English punk rock band formed in 1975 in Wythenshawe, Manchester. Their original line-up consisted of singer Wayne Barrett McGrath, rhythm guitar Mick Rossi, drummer Brian "Mad Muffet" Grantham, lead guitarist Mike Day and bassist Howard Bates.

With the addition of Howard "Zip" Bates on Bass, and Brian "Mad Muffet" Grantham on Drums, Slaughter and the Dogs launched themselves on an unsuspecting public, rapidly building a large, loyal fan base in and around Manchester, while making a noise loud enough to turn the heads of the A&R men down in London.

Hailing from the notoriously tough Manchester suburb of Wythenshawe (once the skinhead capital of the North) Slaughter & The Dogs originally formed when Wayne Barrett (vocals) and drummer, Brian (Mad Muffett) Grantham, got together with bassist Howard 'Zip' Bates joined them in late 1975.
The original line-up was singer Wayne Barrett, Mick Rossi on guitar, bass player Howard “Zip” Bates and drummer Brian “Mad Muffet” Grantham. Wayne and Mick have been a constant in the changing line-ups across the 44 years the band were active, on and off, from 75 to 79, 79 to 81 and 96 to 2019.
